Department of Experiential Learning & Career Success (ELCS)
invites applications for an
ElevateU Career Advisor
. This position will support student engagement in UM’s signature career-ready program, ElevateU. The Career Advisor will meet with students and assist in their career exploration, development, and launch. The Career Advisor will coordinate and/or support career/experiential learning-related projects for student success. Specific work responsibilities include:
Provide Career Advising to Undergraduate and Prospective Students
Use diverse career advising techniques and a holistic approach to assist students in achieving life and career goals
Deliver and interpret career-related assessments (such as Strong Interest Inventory, 16Personalities, and Hig5 Strengths)
Meet students individually and in groups and use career development resources and online career tools to discuss choosing academic majors and career goals, assist with interviewing techniques, application material edits, and job/internship search strategies
Maintain knowledge of employment and labor market trends, and research current and emerging trends in employment, workforce development, and employability factors
Design and present career readiness and special topic presentations in classrooms, virtual spaces, new student orientation events, and campus events
Support Student Success Project Coordination
Support and coordinate student success projects, such as internship scholarships, gap year activities, and/or connecting students with UM alumni
Coordinate development, implementation, and assessment of projects including student outreach and engagement, communication with campus-based departments and external groups, and working with data to measure and report outcomes
Manage Program Technology Platform and Assessment
Support and use ELCS experiential learning and career success platforms and databases such as Handshake, GrizHub, Emsi, EAB Navigate, etc.
Upon completion of training, the incumbent will have:
Higher education student success programming experience
Database management experience
UM’s Academic Advising Certificate
Certified Career Management Coach
Certified Strong Interest Inventory Practitioner
LinkedIn Profile Certification
Required Skills
Demonstrated ability to be a clear, effective communicator, both orally and in writing, and in one-on-one and group settings
Interest in higher education, student services, and student success programming
Awareness of and ability to research and advise students and prospective students about career fields, employment markets, and emerging business/employment trends
Ability to coordinate and implement programs, both curricular and co-curricular
Demonstrated understanding and/or lived experience of the unique challenges faced by underrepresented populations in educational and workplace settings
Proficient use of communication and collaboration tools, namely Zoom, Microsoft Office 365, and the Google Suite
Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
Minimum Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree and up to two years of experience working in higher education, college student advising, career ready/career development programming, and/or experiential learning
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education, student success, and/or career readiness programming,
Experience presenting in-person and virtually to a wide range of audiences
Willingness to engage with and expand existing professional networks to support student success and student employment outcomes

Position Details
Position Title: ElevateU Career Advisor (Academic Advisor II)
Position Number: New
Department: ELCS
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year. This is a two (2) year grant funded position with the possibility for extension.
Salary: $16.98/hr –
