The
School of Integrative Physiology and Athletic Training
invites applications for an
Academic Advisor III
to oversee day-to-day management of academic advising for all undergraduate programs within the School of Integrative Physiology and Athletic Training (IPAT) and within the School of Public and Community Health (PCH).
Responsibilities and duties of the IPAT/PCH Academic Advisor III position include but are not limited to:
Provide comprehensive academic advising and programming that supports the academic success of IPAT/PCH students
Serve as the central resource for faculty and department-based advisors across the campus
Assembly and preparation of academic progress reports to faculty meetings
Oversee and supervise peer advising model
Develop a comprehensive plan to assess the advising process to establish dynamic benchmarks and outcomes based on student, staff and faculty input.
Unless otherwise indicated by a faculty member, the position is responsible for advising of all lPAT students and prospective IPAT students
Responsible for the operations and coordination of UM Days, transfer student and prospective student tours/visits
Hold daily/weekly office hours for students and prospective students
Consult with IPAT Program Coordinator and Chair on class scheduling
Oversee student recruiting and retention by:
Attending associated career and recruiting events
Assisting the School of IPAT Program Coordinator with website update and communication with prospective students
Serve on the Dean's Student Advisory Council to initiate necessary advising and mentoring modifications based on student input
Assist in the collection of assessment on program and student success data postmatriculation
Serve on School committees related to curriculum development
Required Skills
Experience with advising practices and procedures; established experience in academic advisement
Possess knowledge of potential postsecondary barriers associated with students from low income, first generation and minority backgrounds, and ability to advise/counsel/mentor students accordingly
Ability to develop an understanding of the Montana University System's and admissions policies and procedures scholarship opportunities and procedures, and the financial aid process and procedures.
Familiarity with, or the ability to learn, the academic requirements of the Montana University System and University of Montana
Knowledge of good advising practices, and knowledge of, or the ability to learn, standard course and graduation requirements
Requires effective public speaking skills necessary to conduct orientation and informational presentations to prospective and new students
Professional communication and interpersonal skills, as the successful applicant must be able to work effectively with a wide variety of people
Requires extensive computer experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Explorer, and Outlook applications
Excellent written communication and organizational skills
Ability to set priorities while under pressure
Attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
Possess self-initiative and independence to conduct duties on a daily basis
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
The position requires candidate to possess (or ability to obtain upon hire) a current Montana driver's license; during the academic year, the academic coordinator will drive to target schools
Minimum Required Experience
Bachelors Degree and one (1) year of directly related advising experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of MUS, University of Montana, and the School of Integrative Physiology and Athletic Training and the School of Public and Community Health within the College of Health.
