invites applications for an

Academic Advisor III

to oversee coordinating advising and admission to upper-division majors in the College of Business (COB). The COB is home to approximately 1000 undergraduate students. The incumbent will provide leadership and training to two staff members and multiple student employees. In addition, this position manages an advising caseload consisting of COB students on all undergraduate levels and majors.

Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

Develop and Implement a COB Advising Program and its integrated participation in the Gianchetta Student Success Center.

Manage admission to majors within the COB.

Manage an advising caseload of COB students in all undergraduate levels and majors.

Provide leadership and training to additional advising staff members and multiple student employees.

Assist with COB student recruitment and retention efforts and programming.

Plan and conduct major-specific information and new student orientation sessions each semester.

This position requires the incumbent to develop a working knowledge and expertise of all COB issues related to academic advising, graduation requirements (both UM general education and college-specific degree requirements), transfer credit evaluation, graduation application analysis, academic appeals process, etc. The incumbent will work with offices across the campus community and maintain relationships related to advising and student services.

Required Skills

Strong understanding of higher education.

Experience with advising software.

Excellent interpersonal and crisis management skills, positive attitude, ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to remain calm and professional in all situations.

Ability to work independently, efficiently, and accurately in stressful situations with frequent interruptions.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing and presenting information and reports.

Advanced knowledge of office management techniques, administrative practices and procedures, business terminology, and business English.

Knowledge of computer software programs (MS Office Suite, etc.)

Minimum Required Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and at least two (2) years related experience and advising background or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of University-level advising policies and procedures.

Advising experience at the University of Montana.

Fluency with software such as Banner, InfoGriz, Cyberbear, DegreeWorks, Docusign, Navigate, Moodle, and Cascade.
