Primary Role: As a member of the Pathways Advising team, provide advising, outreach and programming for a variety of non-traditional student populations across multiple colleges and programs in the Information industry through the NEXT Apprenticeship Program.
Program Description: The NEXT Apprenticeship Program will enable robust pathways for unemployed and underemployed underrepresented minority populations (URMs) to secure middle- and high skilled jobs in the high-paying Information sector. The program will prepare candidates to fill these roles by offering flexible educational and experiential opportunities tailored to a wide variety of individuals. NEXT will equip candidates with practical education to augment their skills and knowledge gap, and with industry training and experience to prepare them for in-demand roles.
Primary Responsibilities:
*Serve as specialized advisor for students enrolling at the UC in the NEXT Apprenticeship program, matriculated and non-matriculated *Assist students in designing individualized career pathways and academic plans that align with student goals, motivation and preparation level *Carefully assess and combine all prior learning credit (transfer, military, vocational, specialized training) to craft individualized academic plans *Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of digital skills development and tech-related baccalaureate college admission requirements and curricula in addition to regional campus curricula and requirements *Serve as an advising liaison and key collaborator between UC Regional Campuses, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), and the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services (CECH) School of Information Technology on Clifton Campus *Collaborate with the Division of Experience-based Learning and Education (ELCE) to ensure students receive career coaching, professional development opportunities and connections to apprenticeships and co-ops *Collaborate and connect students with student support offices, including those that serve underrepresented populations including E3, TRIO, Turner Scholars, and many others *Prioritize working with military veterans in their transition to UC *Ensure that program participants on all campuses are identified and receive routine communications as well as transition-oriented advising outreach and support *Participate in marketing events designed to recruit students into the program *Maintain caseload of students in cohort, including upload and management of student group in student information system
Minimum Qualifications:
*Bachelor's degree w three (3) years experience; -OR- Associate degree w five (5) years experience; -OR- seven (7) years experience. Experience must be in advising students at the high school and/or college level or a related field
Additional Qualifications:
*Strong Analytical Skills *Excellent written and communication skills *Ability to manage unusual advising cases *Supervision experience or demonstrated ability to mentor entry level advisors
