Job Description:

The role of the Dual Degree and Pre-Health Advisor is to advise students in pre-health and dual degree programs and oversee and manage various programs within the Office of Student Advising and Success and Office of Undergraduate and Postbaccalaureate Pre-health Advising. This includes managing day to day operations, working one-on-one with students and parents as an academic coach, advising students on dual degree requirements, tracking academic progress for dual degree students, researching and carrying out student-focused initiatives, including Pre-Fall Programs and Living and Learning Communities.

Responsibilities Include:

Serves as academic success support to pre-health, nursing and health profession students, coordinating and providing overall quality assurance and troubleshooting support for all Academic Success Coaching.

Advising Dual Degree students.

Advising Pre-Health students.

Tracking student academic progress in pre-health and dual degree programs.

Keeping accurate records of dual degree students' academic progress.

Working with graduate program directors to track academic progress of dual degree students and implement changes to requirements as needed.

Provide annual updates to admissions, Strategic Enrollment Management and the Provost's office on dual degree progression.

Work with registrar's office and website management to maintain accurate dual degree and pre-health requirements.

Work with pre-health student clubs and organizations on community service projects.

Assist in planning and coordinating academic support programs for first-year students and other student cohorts (e.g. transfer students, students on academic probation), facilitate their delivery, and collect data to assess and measure their success.

Recruit, trains, and develop staff of work study students.

Support the Academic Success Planning (ASP 099) program.

Collaborate with Associate Deans to coordinate registration training for students within each college.

Plan, schedule, coordinate, and design new student success workshops.

Plan and execute week-long pre-fall program.

Advise academically high priority students.

Provide academic success coaching services to SHU students.

All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

REQUIRED:

BA or BS in Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field

Experience in a college environment

Organizational skills

Experience in data collection and data management

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in higher education, counseling, psychology, or related liberal arts field

Knowledge of pre-health academic requirements

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty and staff to ensure student, department and University needs are met effectively,

Communicate professionally with students, outside providers, parents (as needed) and staff members to ensure timely decision-making,

Collaborate with department staff to ensure successful goals,

High level of energy required. Seek to motivate and inspire.

Student focused work environment. May require evening hours and/or weekend hours- during final exams week.
