Description:
King University seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, service-oriented candidate to serve as Director of Learning & Disability Services. King University is a small private liberal arts university located in the heart of the southern Appalachian Mountains, set against a backdrop of stunning mountains and nearby picturesque rivers and lakes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education, psychology/counseling, or a related field. Candidates should have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and technological proficiency, to include Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably in disability services; knowledge of ADA/Section 504.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing various programs and services that encourage academic success and excellence. The Director of Learning & Disability Services will work with students seeking disability-related accommodations, their families/supporters, and their healthcare providers to determine eligibility for accommodations and appropriate accommodations; coordinate with faculty and other university staff and offices to ensure access to university programs and services for students with disabilities; serve as a resource and advocate for students with disabilities, while promoting independence and responsibility; and support faculty, staff, and administration in meeting the needs of students with disabilities. The Director of Learning & Disability Services will oversee the operations of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), including all assessment activities and initiatives related to the ACE; work with the directors of the Writing, Speaking, and Math Centers to ensure staff and tutor training and quality; and serve as the institutional liaison with King’s contracted online tutorial service. The Director will also assist program coordinators and department chairs in the selection, training, and scheduling of departmental tutors. The Director of Learning & Disability Services will provide learning and metacognition support services to all students through one-on-one consultations as well as by developing and offering workshops and other programming. The Director will also serve as a resource to faculty in the development of learner-centered learning strategies in their courses.
