As a Family Therapist, you would provide supportive services for adoptive children and their families to help them stabilize their homes. Services are offered to families formed through DCFS adoption, subsidized guardianship; private domestic adoptions, foreign adoption or out of state adoption. WORK SCHEDULE: Full time = 37.5 hours/week, includes evening and weekend hours and other hours as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Part time = under 30 hours/week.
BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Family Therapist is responsible for assessing and providing voluntary services to Central Illinois families formed through adoption and subsidized guardianship. Services include in-home assessments, crisis and other therapeutic interventions, education, training, support groups, respite, advocacy and referrals to community services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assessment: Conducts Mental Health Assessments that are compliant with both Medicaid Rule 132 procedures and COA. Service/Treatment Planning: With the input of client families, plans services and treatments that will strengthen and support the families and focus child(ren). All Individualized Treatment Plans must be Medicaid Rule 132 and COA compliant.
Mentoring, Advocating, Supporting, and Educating: In accordance with the service goals, provides mentoring, advocacy, support, and education that will protect children, preserve families and enhance the mental health of children and families alike.
Therapeutic Interventions: Provides appropriate therapeutic interventions that will support the focus child(ren) and their families to enhance their overall level of functioning. Assumes responsibility for on-call duties as assigned.
Record keeping: Documentation must meet agency, Medicaid Rule 132 and COA requirements for timeliness, completeness and accuracy.
Community Relations: Represents the agency in a positive light to active and potential clients, referral and funding sources, and the general public. Utilizes community contacts to advocate for clients and to promote child and family well-being.
Legal and Ethical Responsibilities: Complies with all pertinent state and federal laws, DCFS Rules and Procedures, Medicaid Rule 132 requirements, COA standards, HIPAA privacy law and Code of Ethics for Child Welfare Professionals.
Professional Development: Enhances professional competence through ongoing awareness of developments in the field of post adoption. Must become trained in EMDR and Theraplay within the first 16 months of employment. Will participate in all mandatory DCFS trainings. Assists with the training, supervision and evaluation of student interns and new staff, as assigned.
Quality Improvement: Contributes to quality improvement through active participation in Quality Improvement/ Utilization Review activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field required. Three years of post-graduate work as a therapist preferred. Willingness to work evening and weekend hours when necessary to meet the needs of the agency and children and families that we serve. Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA) as defined in Medicaid Rule 132 preferred. At a minimum, must meet the definition of a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and must be supervised by a licensed employee. LCPC strongly preferred.
