The Program Director and Team ensures the provision of quality patient care within available resources.
Reporting to the Vice-President/COO, and in collaboration with the Program Team, the Program Director is responsible for the overall management and evaluation of patient care and support services for the Program. The Program Director is the discipline leader for the genetic counselors and assistants and, in addition, oversees the support staff. Program responsibilities include: recruitment, strategic planning, allocation of resources (staff, supplies, equipment and space), the development of discipline specific and multidisciplinary standards, spearhead Accreditation activities, review professional standards of practice, Code of Ethics, integration of quality improvement, risk management and utilization management systems, and support of education (continuing, training and in-service) and research, as well as, specific line responsibilities for cost centres under his/her purview (e.g. Organizational Chief for SAP). Depending on academic credentials and background, the Program Director may be eligible to have faculty appointments at the University with opportunities for research, teaching and trainee supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters of Science Degree in Genetic Counseling/Genetics/Health Administration/Business Administration/Public Administration required.
Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Genetics preferred.
Management Program Degree/Certification or related credential required.
Membership with the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists preferred.
Certification with American Board of Genetic Counseling/Canadian Association of Genetic Counseling preferred.
Successful completion of formal training in education preferred (e.g. Bachelor of Education, Certification in Higher Education and Teaching).
Minimum ten years experience in an academic clinical setting (genetics preferred), with the three most recent years in a management/supervisory role.
Experience in program planning, development, evaluation and managing patient care services required.
Experience in the development of research programs with an established publication record preferred.
Experience in academic and clinical teaching preferred.
Must have excellent leadership abilities, communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving abilities, judgment and interpersonal skills.
Integrity, dependability, honesty, initiative, tact, a strong commitment to quality and high ethical standards are required.
