Job Summary/Essential Duties:
Contributes to the CHI Health mission and vision by providing quality direct patient care to the assigned population which includes but is not limited to maintenance of therapeutic milieu, provision of a safe, supportive environment and monitoring of basic physical needs.
Serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision and values of CHI Health.
Assists patients in the development of individuality and appropriate methods of self-expression through promoting an environment in which the patient can problem-solve and test out new behaviors.
Assists the patients in acknowledging and accepting responsibility for psychological and behavioral patterns through providing feedback and positive reinforcement, consistently applying program rights and regulations, behavior modification program and communicating in an appropriate manner with the patient.
Participates in admission procedures; orients patient and family (significant others) to unit and program.
Escorts patients to ancillary departments for procedures/appointments.
Escorts patients to off campus to appointments
Provides appropriate emergency care and maintains a safe environment. Maintains a secure environment and acts as a resource for emergency situations.
Performs basic nursing tasks (i.e. but not limited to: vital signs, blood pressure, specimen collection, accu checks, weighing and assisting with activities of daily living). Assist the nurse in carrying out orders that are within the scope of practice.
Provides care and supervision of patients needing to be in the seclusion room (where appropriate).
Provides care and supervision to patients needing physical restraint (where appropriate).
Assists the patient in dealing with relationship difficulties, supports and teaches appropriate socialization skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
Required: High School Diploma or GED with at least 1 year of experience as a Psych Tech or equivalent.
Preferred: A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Service field or Graduate of a Psychiatric Assistant or Nurse Aide training program or one year experience in the Behavioral Health field. Will consider current nursing students or students studying a Human Services field.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Physical and mental health, emotional maturity and interpersonal competence. Demonstrated ability to effect planned change in a positive manner. Able to work with a interdisciplinary team. Able to appropriately resolve conflict and crisis situations. Demonstrated ability to seek opportunities for personal and professional growth. An understanding of normal and abnormal development across the life span.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Will obtain the following within six (6) months of employment:
-CPI Certification
-First Aide
-Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting-APS – IA only
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Valid Nebraska driver’s license also required upon hire.
