General Description of Position:
This position seeks to support student success through the following functions: mental health counseling services to students; collaborates with the Office of Disability Support Services; and participates in institutional activities and committees.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide direct individual and/or group counseling to a diverse community college student population.
Provide counseling services, assessment, and consultation.
Refer students and/or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
Support crisis response and behavioral intervention campus teams.
Create, organize, plan, and enact mental health and addiction related educational, preventative, and proactive outreach programming to the college community.
Plan and implement awareness weeks (e.g. depression, suicide prevention week, alcohol, etc.)
Engage faculty across departments about the relationship between psychological issues and academic success, and about de-escalation strategies, health and counseling services, and referral protocol.
Create ongoing evaluative procedures to determine effectiveness of outreach programming.
Gather information about community mental health and addictions resources and build a relationship with those agencies to be used as referrals.
Refer students and/or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
Contribute to disability services team as relevant and needed.
Attend Ivy Cares ongoing staff and statewide meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in mental health counseling. The degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation;
Current licensure as a mental health counselor (i.e., LMHC, LPC, LPCC)
Must have strong therapeutic skills, be able to work with a broad range of problems and clinical severity within a short-term treatment mode, comfortable working with students who may have experienced trauma and have a passion for connecting with students, faculty, and staff.
