Job Description:

City University of Seattle School of Health and Social Sciences has a commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment to our diverse students, faculty, and staff. Our Counselor Education department is looking for a Full-time Teaching Faculty to join its current faculty team.

Our Masters of Arts in Counseling (MAC) classes are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Our Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision classes are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays nights from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

*Note: CityU Counselor Education is a hybrid program located in the greater Seattle area. In-person instruction will re-commence dependent on safe environmental factors.

School Description:

City University of Seattle's School of Health and Social Sciences is one of the lead producers of counselors for Washington State and British Columbia, Canada. Aside from counseling, this School touts highly ranked and in-demand certificates, undergraduate and graduate programs in health and human services, counseling, and general studies.

Programs in the School of Health and Social Sciences serve students who want to create a more equitable society and empower people. Each program sets students up for success by teaching them the skills and knowledge necessary to advance their careers in the pathway they select.

Program Description:

The Counselor Education (CE) department has CACREP-accredited master's level counseling tracks in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. The department has submitted a self-study to add our Professional School Counseling track. Starting in fall 2021, the CE department will seek CACREP accreditation for a master's level Addictions Counseling and a doctoral level Counselor Education and Supervision track. Full-time faculty teach both the master's and doctoral level courses. All tracks' courses are offered through the hybrid teaching method.

Job Summary:

Full-time teaching faculty report to a Program Director and are primarily responsible for maintaining a full-time teaching load of 12 courses per year

. Faculty at City University of Seattle has three key responsibilities: striving for excellence in teaching and learning, fostering student development, and maintaining currency in their profession. Additional opportunities may include program design, assessment, technology integrations, curriculum development, and representing the department in various university-wide committees and service and outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching Excellence

Foster a respectful, empowering learning environment that contributes to a positive student experience.

Fulfill the instructional responsibilities of planning for course activities, appropriate teaching methods, and assessment of student work.

Connect class presentations and activities to course learning objectives as set forth in the course guide.

Provide feedback to students in a timely and meaningful manner aimed at fostering continuous growth and development.

Encourage student participation in the learning process through a variety of learning techniques and strategies.

Be available to students for consultation and clarification regarding course subject matter.

Model professional approaches that instill high ethical values and encourage lifelong learning.

Evaluate student performance according to established University criteria.

2. Student Learning and Development

Support student learning and engagement. Proactively develop students to become responsible, ethical, self-directed professionals.

Engagement in and modeling of scholarship in research, teaching, and learning.

Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in mental health practice.

Secondary Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Development and Review

Assist the Program Director in ensuring that program curriculum is in alignment with CityU Academic Model and focuses on application and current practice.

Assist in ensuring alignment of program with CACREP accreditation standards.

2. Academic and Institutional Governance

May be asked to engage in formal and informal academic and institutional governance by serving on councils and committees.

3. Service and Outreach

Participate in and promote professional communities in area(s) of expertise.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. A doctoral degree in Counseling Education and Supervision (doctoral candidate level is considered). Preferred doctoral degrees are from CACREP-accredited programs.

Expertise in master's level Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling, Professional School Counseling, Addictions Counseling, and/or doctoral level Counselor Educator and Supervision.

Preferably two to four years of experience teaching in both in-class and online modes of educational delivery.

Ability to address academic-related issues and concerns to support retention and student success.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities.

Ability to present a professional image on behalf of the academic school and CityU as appropriate.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and learning management systems in support of quality teaching and learning.

A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in both classroom and clinical settings.

Salary information:

$75,000 -- $85,000/year
