Profile
The Career and Technical Education School Counselor must strengthen and facilitate the educational process by providing continuity of care to students in Career and Technical Education programs; provide individual or group counseling or emergency assistance to students in need; provide recruitment and outreach to prospective students regarding Burlington Technical Center programs and college & career guidance to current Burlington Technical Center students. The counselor is responsible for enrollment and admissions procedures and systems, data collection, and works in coordination with multiple BTC departments on State wide data collection and assessment. The counselor is responsible for the systems of student recognition and National Technical Honor Society and BTC Recognition Night. The position requires excellent communication skills in coordination with BTC’s nine-partner high schools, savvy technology skills, and marketing/recruitment skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Works closely with programs and students to be a support for social emotional learning
Is responsible for student academic progress reports and communicating with BTC Director and teachers
Has strong communication skills that foster and develop community building within the school and with families and parents
With partner high schools, students, families, BTC staff, and community partners/organizations.
Recruitment, Admissions, and Marketing material and systems development
Assists Burlington Technical Center with Social Emotional Learning development to support students and staff.
Program of Studies/Proficiency/ Education Materials
Responsible for National Technical Honor Society
Is Responsible for BTC student recognition systems and procedures
Excellent organizational, written, oral, technological, and interpersonal skills
Experience with PowerSchool, Naviance, Personalized Learning Plans, and enrollment management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Minimum Required: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Guidance
Must be licensed as or meet the Vermont Standards for licensure for Career and Technical Education School Counseling Coordinator (5440-73)
Experience:
A minimum of two years of educational work experience with High School students, with a total of five years of experience in education. Career and workforce development is preferred.
