Job Description:
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. in Canada is looking for a qualified Academic Advisor to join its Advising team and support our Master of Counselling Program.
Job Summary:
The role of the Academic Advisor is to support students from the time they are admitted into an academic program through graduation and beyond. Specific areas of advising include course scheduling, financial aid, immigration and international student issues, academic support, and accessing student and alumni resources. Academic Advisors play a vital role in student retention by providing excellent customer service focused on enhancing the student's overall experience at CityU in Canada.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Advising and Retention of New Students
Assist newly enrolled students register for their courses with continued registration, program planning, and scheduling, following outlined University policies and procedures for all student paperwork processing.
Counsel incoming international students on academic, immigration, cultural, and social issues and conducts international student orientation.
Counsel incoming students on Canadian financial aid options available through provincial/federal programs, private lending options, external scholarships, and CityU resources.
2. Retention and Support of Continuing Students
Maintain regular contact with all current students to learn their concerns and desires utilizing any combination of telephone, email, social media, and in-person appointments.
Advise and counsel students, in coordination with the Academic department, at the location where they attend classes or online, towards the successful completion of their established academic objectives. Counsel continuing international students on academic, immigration, cultural, and social issues and conduct international student workshops on topics specific to their needs. Maintain files on all international students to ensure compliance with Canadian immigration regulations.
Provide advice and access to career development resources for students completing their programs who are seeking employment opportunities
Provide ongoing counsel on financial aid options and resources available to assist students to meet the financial obligations of their program.
Act as a liaison for the student to other University departments to resolve student issues. Effectively addresses student concerns to ensure that all students are aware of their options and financial/academic obligations to their program of choice.
Regularly report student concerns to appropriate University departments or personnel.
Document all activities in CRM On Demand and/or PeopleSoft as appropriate. Maintains up-to-date record keeping for all assigned students and utilizes specifics to communicate with students proactively.
Supports business office activities such as cashiering, banking, and payment plan administration as assigned and as appropriate.
3. Professional Requirements
Maintains full knowledge of City University in Canada's curricula so that program recommendations can be made to students that will align with each student's needs and aspirations.
Maintains knowledge of effective student retention strategies, university academic programs, admissions policies, and procedures, including student policies related to Students' Rights and Responsibilities, FERPA, and FOIPOP.
Maintains knowledge of current Canadian student immigration regulations.
Fully understands City University's student financing sources, rules, and requirements so that eligibility requirements can be conveyed to students.
Maintains knowledge of current Provincial student financial aid regulations, rules, and policies.
Maintains contact and engagement with current students and alumni, and generates new student referrals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of two years of enrollment, student services, or counseling experience, preferably in a college or university setting.
Must demonstrate a high level of customer service; attention to detail; and organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through ability.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision, effectively prioritize work, multi-task, and adjust to changing workloads and deadlines.
Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to present information effectively to small or large groups and respond to questions from diverse groups of students, staff, faculty, community organizations, and the general public.
Proficient with essential MS Office tools.
Experience working in a PeopleSoft environment is preferred. Working knowledge of databases to enter, track and maintain student information.

Salary information:
$50,000 -- $53,000/year DOE
